Major Festivals
Christmas
Join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, whether our traditional service of 9 Lessons and Carols at St Mary’s usually on the Sunday preceding Christmas Day, a quieter Reflective Carol Service, usually on the Saturday preceding Christmas Day, our Crib Service for young children on Christmas Eve afternoon at St Alban’s or our Midnight Mass at St Mary’s on Christmas Eve. Start the big day itself with a traditional Communion Service at St Mary’s or a more informal one at St Alban’s. You’ll be very welcome at any of these services. Please see the calendar nearer the time for full details of services.
Easter
Easter is the central festival for the Christian Faith when we remember and celebrate the saving work of Jesus through his suffering, death and resurrection from the dead. We start with Passion Sunday two weeks before Easter Day then our Palm Sunday celebration a week before Easter Day. In the week leading up to Easter Day (Holy Week) we have a service of Evening Prayer Monday – Wednesday with a Communion Service in the evening of Maundy Thursday. On Good Friday morning, join us at the Foot of the Cross – an all-age service at St Alban’s – while in the afternoon at St Mary’s we reflect on the last hour of Jesus’ earthly life . On Easter Day itself, join us for a traditional Communion Service at St Mary’s or an informal one at St Alban’s. Please see the calendar nearer the time for full details of services.
Pentecost
Christians believe that we are energised to serve God and other people through the gift of God’s Holy Spirit who dwells in us if we invite him. At Pentecost, also known as Whitsun, we celebrate the gift of God’s Holy Spirit to us. Join us for a traditional Communion Service at St Mary’s or a more informal one at St Alban’s. Pentecost is 7 weeks after Easter so do check the calendar nearer the time for details of both services.
